The experience that put you on the receiving end of racism
Racism doesn’t always appear to be hateful. It can hide in the words we choose, in our well-intentioned actions, and in our assumptions. The cumulative effect on people experiencing this racism can be huge – but it’s often unseen and unheard.
Voice of Racism lays bare these real experiences of everyday racism that exist in New Zealand. The intimate web experience allows anyone to put themselves in the shoes of someone on the receiving end of racism, to feel the cumulative burden of consistent micro-aggressions through an audio visual data-driven experience.
The hundreds of micro-aggressions delivered by the voice are the true personal experiences of real people from around New Zealand, and every user who visits the website has a unique, unpredictable experience. A wider campaign promotes the experience, through the genuine reactions of people experiencing the Voice.
Listeners can unpack their personal journey through the Voice, by exploring what they’ve heard and learning how to recognise and challenge racism in their own lives.
